    Potters and Clay Artists are welcome to join the Lander Art Center clay open studio program at 320 Studio. We have 5 potters’ wheels, a slab roller, a pug mill and lots of table space. We have a kiln that fires to cone 6. We sell clay in 25 lb bags. The 320 Clay Studio is available to past LAC clay class participants, people who have taken the Beginner Orientation, or experienced potters.

    Come for fun, informal evenings of figure drawing with a live model. The Figure Drawing Studio is non-instructional but there will be a facilitator on hand to guide the process.     This class lets you explore two different printmaking techniques and Japanese bookbinding to make a unique journal. Self designed stamps and patterns will be used to make the cover for a book filled with your own block prints. Both for those who are new to printmaking and those who have some previous experience, this class will be full of creative discovery. Play with a new medium, and come home with a entirely self-made journal!

    Foundational Drawing

    Come back to the basics with this class geared to all level of artist. Use still life to build your foundational drawing skills. Working in charcoal, pencil, and pastel, train your artist’s eye to see shapes, lights, darks, proportion and color. Find success in drawing simple objects and progress to more complex subjects. Jerry will balance instruction on technique with personal coaching based on student’s goals.

    Clay Intensive

    Get ready to get down and dirty. This six-week pottery course will introduce you to the basics of throwing on the pottery wheel. The class is both for beginners, and for those wishing to hone their skills! There will be instruction on how to pull handles, along with some interesting ideas for altering the wheel-thrown form. Cost includes 25 pounds of clay, glaze materials and firing.

    Pysanky: Ukrainian Easter Egg Batik, Community Class

    Get ready for Easter with these beautiful hand dyed eggs. Handcrafted pysanky are made using raw eggs, dyes and beeswax in a wax resistant technique similar to cloth batik. Make your own colorful designs. Come for all four classes or drop in for one or two.

    Live Animal Art: Drawing the Horse and Other Critters

    This drawing class will start in the studio using rules, proportion, geometry and form to capture the basic foundation of animals. Move to drawing live animals, drawing on the beauty, dynamism and spirit of the animals we love. We will focus on drawing the horse, but also potentially use dogs and raptors as live models.

    Intuitive Portrait Painting

    Break away from your habitual portrait painting foundations to experience your intuitive and energetic energy when painting and drawing from a live model. Paint from your subconscious and explore non-traditional ways of capturing the essence of a human face on canvas.     Papermaking

    Learn the basics of creating your own handmade paper with master printmaker Jim Jereb. Create your own high quality smooth paper for printmaking, book-binding or drawing. Participants will learn the skills of sheet forming necessary for all paper making procedures. You will come away from this workshop with several sheets of 11X15 paper with your own unique watermark. All materials are provided for this one day intensive. Class size limited to 5, so sign up soon!

    Linocut Relief Multi-color Print Making Workshop

    Saturday, May 27, 9 am - 2 pm

    Sunday, May 28, 9 am - 2 pm

    Cost: $80

    Instructor: Ginnie Madsen

    Location: 320 Studio, 320 Main Street.

    Make prints using the subtractive method to create multi-color images with accurate registration (color line ups.) We will also experiment with the blending of inks or the use of other smaller blocks to get even more opportunities to introduce color into the basic principle of printing from a single carved block. If participants have any linoleum blocks previously used, please bring them. There are often possibilities to use them in new ways. Don’t miss this chance to work with Ginnie Madsen and be inspired by her beautiful reduction prints.
